Carey offers compassion, support and skilled trauma informed strategies to help her clients overcome the impacts of abuse including addictions. Carey is a graduate of Walden University and has advanced training in working with people with abuse histories. She is now working toward her LPC licensure in WV. Under supervision of Donna Borders, LPC, ALPS

Welcome—I’m Carey Gruenwald. I’m so glad you’re here.

A Bit About Me

I work with individuals who are ready to heal from the emotional residue of childhood and adult trauma, including patterns of codependency, love addiction, substance use, compulsive behaviors, or other addictive patterns that often develop as coping strategies. If you’re navigating life after trauma—whether it’s the result of big events or the slow burn of microtraumas—you don’t have to do it alone.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is heart-centered and grounded in both spiritual and emotional practices. I offer a space where you can safely release stored emotions, reconnect with your inner child, and begin the journey toward wholeness—mentally, emotionally, spiritually, sexually, and physically. Many of my clients are familiar with the 12-step path or are looking for a counselor who can weave that wisdom into the therapeutic process. I incorporate:

  • family systems work
  • emotional release,
  • guided meditation,
  • Head-Heart coherence practices,
  • and energy healing, including Reiki.

Whether you’re just starting or returning to this work, I’ll meet you with compassion and curiosity—not judgment.

I work under the supervision of Donna Borders, LPC, as I complete my post-graduate licensure hours. If you’re feeling called to heal, to process grief, or to untangle long-held patterns, I’m here to walk alongside you. You don’t have to fix yourself—you just have to show up.

A great person to speak to with understanding about relationships and the mental health issues that arise in them. I thank her so much for her help in my time of need.

Even though it was our first session, I felt very relaxed and comfortable expressing myself and my needs and concerns. It was a great and informative session

Donna is an amazing couples’ therapist. She has such a bright and sweet energy and brought that into how she helped us facilitate our communication. I would recommend her to anyone. It’s clear that she is very experienced and knows what she’s talking about.

Carey was such a caring and compassionate counselor while under her care. She went above and beyond to meet me where I was in my recovery. She provided excellent insight and inspiration to further my progress. Thank you!!

I find Carey to be a great listener and someone who gives a lot of consideration to her responses to me. Her demeanor is calm and loving, just what I need when I am sharing my personal life.

The sessions were testing, enlightening, emotional, but most of all empowering. Carey was absolutely brilliant in her approach and always managed to ask the right questions.
